Example from my student teaching

Reading and math classes for the second grade at HHIESCA are leveled by ability; I was placed in the lowest math class, which contained students who were at least one grade level behind. Though the class itself was leveled, there was still a wide range of abilities, and many students also had IEP's for learning or behavioral challenges. This lesson was designed to help teach my students the concept of regrouping in addition, following the standards of the Common Core. In the lesson, I differentiated significantly by ability in three different ways: leveled groups, problems, and workbook packets. Though it was important for all students to produce the same information (they all had to learn addition with regrouping), some groups required easier numbers, or more teacher supervision, than others.
